Doug and Julia Make Sketches (From Two Different States)
Partially inspired by lockdown and partially inspired by missing each other’s comedy, Julia and long time Detroit comedy bud Doug Kolbicz wrote, filmed, and edited a complete sketch show from their respective states. It’s got silly stuff, weird stuff, character stuff, and dark stuff. Thanks to power of movie magic and Doug’s editing skills, they’re proud of it and think you should watch it.
Stories To Be Murdered By
It all begins with an idea.
Julia was an assistant director and writer for a spooky comedy audio album released in October 2020. STBMB consisted of comedic short horror stories, spooky narration, and Halloween-themed sketches and songs. Julia helped cast the project with folks from the comedy community in NYC, Detroit, and Denver.
The Parent Trap: Lord of the Twins Trilogy
It all begins with an idea.
Julia and her long time creative partner Nicole Pascaretta are co-creators of The Parent Trap: Lord of the Twins Trilogy: a three part epic staged theatrical retelling of The Parent Trap (1998 version) through the storytelling lens of LOTR. Directed and choreographed by James Quesada, it’s part storytelling and commentary and part fantastical reimagining, with the girls jumping from character to character, narrator to self. It is highly physical and meticulously scripted and choreographed.
It currently has a home at Caveat in New York City, where you can find it every month. It’s been featured in variety shows in Detroit and NYC, and had a sold out run at Go Comedy Improv Theater. It was a headliner for the Detroit Women of Comedy Festival in May 2022. Evil stepmother herself Meredith Blake (aka the incredible Elaine Hendrix) came to a show in NYC and raved about it on instagram, calling it a “must see for your 411”. Desperate Renters
It all begins with an idea.
Julia’s award winning improv troupe in Detroit, Reclassify Pluto, were crowned champions at Planet Ant’s 2015 Colony Fest Improv Tournament. As a prize for winning Colony Fest, the troupe co-wrote a one act comedic play with award winning director Mike McGettigan. Thus was born Desperate Renters, the story of a group of apartment tenants that have to cover up a dead body. Desperate Renters sold out its run at Planet Ant.
Go Comedy! Improv Theater
It all begins with an idea.
Julia was involved in several writing projects at Go Comedy Improv Theater when she lived in Detroit. She wrote for multiple featured Christmas Sketch Shows, was a recurring writer for Go’s 24-hour sketch shows, she was a contributor and Assistant Director for the monthly Matt Naas Variety Show, and she also wrote bits for Go! Award Shows.
